Story:
WAGEP project is working in the Upazila of Ghatail, Dhanbari, Vhuapur and Modhupur for so long. Our staff used to discuss women rights and other 13 points to ensure women rights with the community people and Symbiosis group members. Marriage registration topic is a part of those 13 points. Our staff identified that many of the group members don’t know anything about marriage registration though they are married. Many of these group members believe that people can only get marry using the word “Kabul (Agree to marry some one)” in front of a maulovi (Religious leader). When these group members know about marriage registration and it’s important, many group members came to us willingly to register their marriage.
 According to the demand by these group members, Symbiosis staffs arrange a group marriage registration program on 4th December 2007 for 13 couple. A Newspaper Journalist, local chairman and other elite people from the local community people were attuned in this program and they all prayed for those couple for their happy life after their marriage registration had been done. Following are the list of 13 people, who did the marriage registration:
1. Rabea Begam and A. Habib 2. Sufia Begam and A. Khalek 3. Jamila begam and Mr. Jalad Uddin 4. Bubi Akhter and Md. Dulal, 5. Jamila Begam and Md. Mannan 6. Jabeda Khatun and Md. Ansar 7. Halima Begam and Md. Sohrab 8. Rabea Khatun and Md. Sabu Shekh 9. Rubia Akhter and Md. Abdul Khaleque 10. Nabiron and Md. Forhad Shekh 11. Mariam Begam and Md. A. Rahim 12. Kohinur Begam and Md. Shajahan Ali 13. Anoara Begam and Mr. Altab Ali.
Most of these couple registered their marriage after 15 to 32 years from their marriage. Marriage registration is an important factor. When  Mr. Abdul Khaleque came to us with her wife to register their marriage, expressed that when WAGEP staff described the importance of marriage registration then they realize that they should register their marriage. He also informed that in the year 1973 he married and that time he was not aware of marriage registration and now when he knows about marriage registration he realized the importance of this registration and willingly came to us to register his marriage.
Now he and her wife is happy to register their marriage after 34 years from their marriage with the help of WAGEP staff. He is also very thankful to Symbiosis to aware them with such an important factor like marriage registration.
Analysis: Now people understand marriage document is very important subject. Many people come to our WAGEP worker for their marriage documentation. |
