Success Story: Rabbi, son of Aklima is living at Hazrabari in Dhanbari Upazilla under Tangail District. Aklima is a group member of Symbiosis Bangladesh. Rabbi’s father Abul Hossain is a Rickshaw puller. They live from hand to mouth. When Rabbi was three years old, Aklima first observed that when she gave him food in a plate, he could not identify the actual position of the plate. At that time, she suspected that he had eye problem but she did not know what to do. So, they were very worried about their son.

One day Symbiosis worker Ruma came to this group for eye health session by which she created eye Health Awareness. At that time rabbi was four years old. Aklima told Ruma about her son. Ruma advised Akilma to bring his son in the SPECS Clinic. With her advice Aklima went to SPECS Clinic with her son. SPECS Doctor examined Rabbi’s eye and identify cataract eye in his both eye, and doctor also assure him that Rabbi’s eye might be well after Cataract Operation. The doctor advised her to go BNSB eye Hospital, Mymensingh. Aklima went to BNSB eye Hospital, Mymensingh, with her son for Cataract Operation by the financial support from SPECS Clinic. BNSB Doctor had done an Operation onto Rabbi’s eye and the Operation was successful.

Rabbi is very happy because he got return of his sight. Now he can see everything and goes to school. Aklima is greatful to SPECES because they gave her child a normal life.

Analysis: The above case study shows that awareness creating among the rural people can change their lives. Many children suffer eye problems which need early detection by the family members before they become incurable. These problems can be overcome with awareness program. SPECS is working with awareness raising among the rural group members. Early treatments give good results.
