Project Goal:
"Supporting sustainable development by reducing low vision and blindness through primary eye care education and services"

Project objectives:

  1. To increase the access of 6000 poor women, men and children to primary eye care and refractive services.
  2. To improve the ability of SPECS eye patients who require further treatment to access appropriate eye care facilities or services.
  3. To significantly raise the awareness levels of women and men with emphasis on symbiosis project participants) about important eye health issues.
  4. To increase the access of 9000 primary school children to screening for visual problems and raise the awareness of their teachers about important eye health issues.

Success Story: Rabbi, son of Aklima is living at Hazrabari in Dhanbari Upazilla under Tangail District. Aklima is a group member of Symbiosis Bangladesh. Rabbi’s father Abul Hossain is a Rickshaw puller. They live from hand to mouth. When Rabbi was three years old, Aklima first observed that when she gave him food in a plate, he could not identify the actual position of the plate. At that time, she suspected that he had eye problem but she did not know what to do. So, they were very worried about their son.

Story:

Sajib is only eight years old. His father is Masud Rana. He is living at Master para in Modhupur upazilla under of Tangail District. He selling Cosmetics and iron cloths. He can earn maximum three thousand taka per month. From childhood, Sajib keep the books very close when reading. We always suggested him not to do this, but he did not obey our advice. We beat him many times just for this reasons. He never told us that he couldn’t see properly. Sajib thought this is normal, as he didn’t realize he had an eye problem.
