Women's Advocacy and Gender Equality Project

This project operates across all the Women and Children's Projects and several of the Rural Integrated Projects. Given the traditional lowly status of women in Bangladesh culture, this is a vital project which aims to empower women by raising awareness of their legal and human rights.

The Women's Advocacy and Gender Equality Program is one of the most strategic of the Symbiosis programs in that it often triggers substantial changes in impoverished families and communities who frequently did not know their own rights. Dealing with these issues sensitively through discussions within trusted groups of peers allows whole communities to examine the ways in which they could choose to transform their society. These discussions are wide and varied, but include the rights of women and children under the law, the importance of the environment, the importance of educating children, stopping gender based violence and avoiding child marriage.
