Every year hundreds of thousands of rural Bangladeshis migrate to the cities fleeing the loss of their homes by natural disaster or looking for work and a better life. Sadly for most, the rapid urbanisation of the country is instead bringing sprawling unplanned slum areas where overcrowded living conditions are extremely hard.

Symbiosis established the Women's and Children's Program specifically to assist rural women and children who have migrated to urban slums, and especially those who may be living in situations placing children ‘at risk’.
